Evergreen Community Outreach – Volunteering with 好人好事 (HRHS) on 1st Oct
Another wonderful event organised by 好人好事 (HRHS). This morning, we joined volunteers to pack and distribute provisions to 1000 families covering 7 schools, 7 community groups and Toa Payoh Blks 160 & 161.
The full activity starts from before 7:15am to and ended at around 10:30am. When we arrived at the distribution hub at Toa Payoh Blk 161, we were assigned to Table 2 which had 2 provision items (baked beans and jam). The whole process includes unloading and pack for bulk deliveries and subsequently the packing around 40 items for delivery/collection by beneficiary households.
The whole activity went through smoothly and it was such an energising morning joining other volunteers doing good together.

Evergreen Community Outreach – Volunteering with 好人好事 (HRHS) on 4th June
We’re back to distributing provisions to households, and this time we participated at the distribution of the monthly provisions organized by Hao Ren Hao Shi (好人好事 ). This was at their new distribution hub at blocks 159 and 160 (Toa Payoh Lorong 1). The full activity starts from before 7:30am to around 10:30am. Despite the morning drizzle, provision supplies were unloaded from trucks arriving at the hub, and moved to the respective designated tables all ready to be given to volunteer ‘runners’ that collect the items in the provision backs. In all the target was 1000 sets comprising 28 items in 2 bags.
The team of us was assigned Table 7, which has 4 provision items (choco-pie, instant noodles, canned mushrooms and sweetcorn). Of the 1000 sets, we had to apportion out 340 to be sent to 5 schools, the remaining 670 to fill the bags of volunteers picking items from table to table. When all items are collected, we were assigned addresses in the neighbouring blocks to hand-deliver to the beneficiary households.
The volunteering program will not stop here. We would like to invite more of our friends and clients to join us at the next event on 2nd July (the first Saturday of the month). See you there at our next volunteering program!...
Evergreen Community Outreach – Beach Clean-Up with Ocean Purpose Project (OPP) on 19th March
“If plastic comes from oil, why not turn it to oil?” – we learned the answer from a very purposeful beach clean-up activity organized by Ocean Purpose Project – a Pasir Ris social enterprise driving ocean
conservation and plastic pollution prevention. Within SMM guidelines, we are glad to have twenty over participants and this time including our clients and their family members.
One of 3 key pillars of OPP is ‘Plastic to Fuel’ (PTF) and this focuses on transforming ocean waste into
low-sulphur fuel, hydrogen, carbon black and carbon nanotubes through nimble deployable pyrolysis
machines. In the clean-up, our activity involved
1) picking the litter along the beach and mangrove
2) weigh, collect data, sort & clean the plastics to be sent for recycling
3) de-brief and feedback from participants – recognition of winning team
We collected a total of 48.9 kg of trash with 4 buckets full of cleaned plastic to be sent to NTU NEWRI to
be turned into low sulphur fuel and hydrogen!
Notably our reward is the education and a humbling experience to be mindful for consideration and care
for our environment. We look forward to having our clients, families and friends join us in future ECO
activities....
Evergreen Community Outreach – Gardening Activity at Straits Biopharma Foundation’s Nanyang Herb Garden:
Being hosted by Straits Biopharma Foundation, we are their first corporate guest to receive first-hand knowledge and hands-on gardening experience at the Nanyang Herb Garden. This special place was transformed from a building site and carpark area into into a healing garden with plants, trees, shrubs and flowers that have medicinal properties.
It is also a source of horticultural healthcare where the Garden Dispensaries provide freshly harvested herbs free-of-charge to needy patients seeking natural remedies to help alleviate their financial burdens.
Our Evergreen volunteers witnessed first-hand how their efforts in plucking, cutting and harvesting fresh herbs were able to be given to patients with chronic diseases. Some brought their families and partners along, a special way to bond together during the pandemic by giving back to those in need.

Learning from our food packing at Jamiyah Food Bank, we wanted to do a bit more and get out there to give.
Hence the idea of getting our own donations to purchase items, pack them and give to residents in the community. We picked a Saturday morning – 21st August 2021 (also the special date for this year’s National Day Parade).
With this plan, we approached the Owen Residents’ Committee, and was readily supported by both Ms Jessica Lum (Chairperson) and Ms Clara Tan (Volunteer). So on that cool Saturday morning, the EAM crew assembled at the pavilion entrance of Blk 47 Owen Road and, in our respective 2-by-2 teams went from door-to-door to give Care Packs to the residents.
We want to do more, and would like to invite our clients and friends to join us in the next community outreach activity....
Evergreen Community Outreach – Food packing at Jamiyah Foodbank
On a Monday afternoon (19th July, and thankfully before the recent heightened phase), the Food Bank Manager, Mr Mohd Shariff organised 12 of us into 3 four-member teams handling rice packing, groceries items collection, and packing /checking-out stations.
In all, we packed two pallet loads of food rations that
are then stored for future collection or distribution to beneficiaries.
Jamiyah FoodBank collects, sorts, stores and distributes donated food to poor and needy families. In collaborating with Rotary E-Club 3310 Community Services, we got ourselves involved in the “packing process” of the distribution chain....
